Flour Bluff High School is successful in University Interscholastic League Academic Competition. Our Mathematics and Current Events Teams were first in the state in 2000 and 2001. Students may also compete on the science, calculator, number sense, journalism, ready writing, debate, oral interpretation, extemporaneous speaking, literary criticism, spelling, accounting, and computer science teams. The One Act Play cast and crew is also a successful part of our award-winning academic team.
We have been regional champions in Academic Decathlon for the last eight years. Our Academic Decathlon Team in 2001 ranked third in the state in the medium school division this year. Our Academic Octathlon team has placed first or second in regional competition for the last eight years.
Other successful academic teams include Mock Trial (second in region), Visual Arts Scholastic Event (state art winners), and National Forensics League (district qualifiers).
